A little about us

Welcome to the Challas website.

Our catering services can be hired in Dublin, Belfast, and throughout Ireland.

The inspiration behind the product is Charl Marais, a South African braai BBQ extraordinaire, who decided that Ireland might appreciate a little of the flavour of his home country.

After attempting many times to braai in the Irish weather, Charl decided that he needed something which would work just as well under cover as outdoors so he began to design and build a roast meats machine which is not only smoke free, but cooks the meat perfectly in a few hours, enabling us to cook the joints completely fresh for you onsite.

Charl has imported his vision of traditional roast meats and wedding/ event catering, South African style, but has built everything himself using locally sourced material.

All we need is a well ventilated indoor area or a space big enough to erect a gazebo which will protect your food and your friends from any unpredictable weather.

We provide a range of meats at an affordable price which will make an original and memorable centrepiece for your gathering, which means that you can sit back and watch the whole process while savouring the mouth watering aroma of meat roasting.

Our catering services are available for hire in Dublin and Belfast and also throughout Ireland. We provide a professional, quick and clean catering service for any event, large or small.

Our service is fully staffed and managed by catering professionals.

  • Wedding Catering – If you are looking for something a bit more informal yet still very professional.
  • Why not organise something different for your corporate event or end of year work party?
  • All you have to do is choose your meat, your side dishes, count your guests and give us a ring or use our handy Quote Form.  We’ll do all the hard work!

What to expect

We will arrive on the day of your gathering in good time to set up and cook your meat. Don’t worry if it’s raining, our roast meats machine operates indoors as it is completely smoke free or right outside the door well covered by our gazebo.

While the meat is cooking we will have plenty of time to set up the gazebo if required and anything else such as preparing salads and laying out side dishes on our buffet tables.

When the meat is ready the chef will carve and serve.  Your guests can help themselves to any side dishes and then come straight to the roast meats, served by our chef.

We always remove parts of the animal (eg. the head) which may cause offence to sensitive guests.

Please be sure to book well in advance in order to avoid disappointment
